Ekiti kidnappings: New Police commissioner arrives and he’s called ‘James’, not Bond
by Damilola Jagun
Perhaps, the British movie character of James Bond is needed to save Ekiti state.
Or maybe not, Etop John James, may do just fine.
10 persons comprising medical doctors, academics and nurses are still being held by kidnappers.
Consequently, a new Police Commissioner has been dispatched to Ekiti, and he says he only has one mandate, to restore peace in the state.
A couple of days after Governor Ayo Fayose flew to Abuja to plead with the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to look into the spate of kidnappings in the state, James was named the new commissioner of police.
On arrival in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, James met with a section of the populace; which included lawmakers-elect, students, traders and commercial motorcyclists at the Trade Fair Complex, Ado Ekiti.
“Any group that is legitimate is free to talk to me. I will use all information I have now and I will listen to others.
“I am here to ensure peace. I was given only one mandate; it is to go and do police job. My duty is to have peace,’’ he said.
