That belittling moment when Airforce Commodore says Police needs help
by Kolapo Olapoju
“The Nigerian Police Force cannot do it alone”, says a certain Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Airforce.
Perhaps, Air Commodore Yekeen Ishola was more than gracious to say the Police requires assistance in doing its job.
Maybe ‘divine intervention’ would have been more apt to describe what exactly the Nigerian Police Force requires to carry out its duties.
During the recent commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force in Ilorin, Ishola magnanimously stated that the Nigerian Police needs help from other security agencies.
“In a democratic government that Nigeria is going through, though it is the constitutional responsibilities of the Nigerian Police to provide security for the residents, but with various ongoing developments and events, it is obvious that the police alone cannot do it if the residents must enjoy reasonable peace, so there is the need for active involvements of other security agencies of government to do it.”
“Under normal circumstances you are not supposed too see Army or Air Force officers curbing internal security, it is strictly the responsibilities of the police, but this is an unusual times.”
“We have been on standby since about two weeks ago up till this moment I’m speaking with you because there is an operation going on now so there must be closer ties among the security agencies of the government to fight our common enemies which is the criminal.
But I can assure you that we will flush them out wherever they are because they are like golden fish, they have no where to hide.Soit’s just a matter of time.”
