Aregbesola’s Son Arrest: Customs Speak Up
Media reports which alleged that one of Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s sons was arrested by the Nigerian Customs Service for alleged money laundering has been denied by the Customs service.
Reports had circulated in the media that a young man Kabiru, who was later identified as the son of the Osun state governor was on May 12, arrested by Customs authorities at Murtala Muhammed International airport, Lagos with a huge sum of money in his luggage which he could not account for.

The said report stated that the governor’s son was on his way to the United Arab Emirates aboard an Emirates Airlines when he was allegedly caught.
But Victor Ogagbo, the spokesperson for the airport Customs command told a Punch correspondent on Thursday, June 4, that the alleged report was false.
He said the governor’s son was not arrested by the command anywhere at the Lagos airport.
“The report is false. We did not arrest him. People made enquiry at the time and we told them it was false” .
Corroborating the account of the customs authorities, the Osun state government has also denied the alleged arrest of Governor Aregbesola’s son.

In a statement, Semiu Okanlawon, the media aide to the Osun state governor it described the rumour of the arrest as a false report meant to “drag an innocent young man’s name into this dirt in order to get at his father”.
