Federal Govt Threatens To Revoke Its Cooking Stoves Contract Because It Smells Like Scam?
The Federal Government threatens to revoke cooking stoves contract worth N9.2 billion despite N1.3 billion have already been paid.
The Federal Government representative told it is going to revoke the cooking stove contract for rural women approved by the administration of Goodluck Jonathan in November 2014 in case contractor fails to observe the contract conditions.
Fatima Mede, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, said the government had already paid the contractor N1.3 billion out of total N9.2 billion but despite that “what [the contractor] supplied to us is not up to our agreement.”
She added that “we have written to [the contractor] to clarify the supply and count the supply physically before we accept them.”

The company responsible for the project is Integra Renewable Energy Services Limited. It is supposed to provide rural women in Nigeria with 750,000 clean cooking stoves and 18,000 wonder bags, designed for economical cooking.
Fatima Mede also informed the public that before distributing these items to the women in rural areas of Nigeria the government wants to verify not only the quantity but also the quality of those goods.

Following Federal Government’s plans to purchase N9.2 billion worth of cooking stoves and wonder bags for rural women under the National Clean Cooking Scheme, women across the country have rejected the proposal, saying they do not need it.
