Allege Bribe: Veteran Singer In ICPC Net

Popular singer and director-general of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), Onyeka Onwenu, has finally yielded to the pressure of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) over allegations of N17 million contract bribe, Leadership reports

Leadership reports that a source from the ICPC revealed that the veteran singer honoured the invitation by the commission and visited the office on Monday, August 10, to respond to questions relating to an alleged bribery scandal.

It was however not revealed if she was indicted or not but investigations said to be ongoing.

The NCWD director had earlier declined to visit the office a week ago claiming that she had to attend to health issues first.

It was revealed that the reason the singer was being interrogated was because her personal assistant, Chika Abazu, had earlier being charged to court on Friday, July 10 for bribery and gratification.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges but the judge still ordered that he be remanded at the federal prison, Kuje after bail had been denied.

A fortnight ago, Chika Abazu was accused of demanding bribe from a contractor employed by NCWD to carry out renovation projects
