It is recalled that only yesterday, August 11, an explosion reportedly rocked the market of Sabon Gari, Damboa, Borno state. At least 60 people were killed, 43 others injured in the explosion. The number of victims was not precise, as a vigilante source spoke about 20 dead and 25 injured, while a military source, quoted by Reuters, put the number of dead at 47.
Meanwhile, the jihadists have allegedly chosen a new leader. Idriss Deby, the president of Chad, said that Boko Haram is no longer led by the fearsome Abubakar Shekau. He further added that Shekau’s successor was open to talks, but warned President Buhari against negotiating with the terrorist.
“There is someone apparently called Mahamat Daoud who is said to have replaced Abubakar Shekau and he wants to negotiate with the Nigerian government.
“For my part, I would advise not to negotiate with a terrorist.”
