Boko Haram Attacks Borno Village, Vigilance Group Kills 17 Insurgents

A youth vigilance group in Lahou village, Borno state, reportedly killed seventeen members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect on Wednesday, August 12.

Apagu Bitrus, the leader of the group, who spoke to The Punch said the insurgents had attacked the village at about 4p.m. but were repelled.

He said: “We slew 17 militants on Wednesday evening when they invaded Lahou village and equally seized two vehicles from them.

“I can confidently tell you that when we took the battle to them, some of them fled but we are going to bury those who were killed this morning (Thursday).

According to him, the attackers were teenagers, who he believed were between ages 12 to 17.

Bitrus however, expressed sadness over the loss a member of the youth vigilance group, who was killed by the terrorists in the attack.

Lahou is close to Ngulde in Askira-Uba local government area, which is about 70 kilometres to Biu, the commercial centre of the south of Borno State.

Yesterday, reports had surfaced that by suspected Boko Haram members.

The Boko Haram insurgents recently that killed over 50 people at a market in Sabon Gari, threatening Borno residents to join them to fight ‘Holy War’ against ‘infidels’ or die.
