Ekiti PDP Set To Declare Exco Seats Vacant

The embattled chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ekiti state chapter, Chief Idowu Faleye, has declared that the suspension of some executive members of the party remain sacrosanct, pending the outcome of the committee set up to look into their case.

Faleye made this known in Otun Ekiti, on Thursday, August 6. He spoke with journalists on the current position of the party in the state.

“There were allegations of anti-party activities levied against the suspended members, which are: controversial state chairman, Mr Tunde Olatunde, state secretary, Mr Tope Aluko, state women leader, Mrs Oyebade Busayo, and state auditor, Mr Olanrewaju Tunji.

“Vacancies would soon be declared for the positions the suspended members occupied in the party and would be fixed in when the need becomes expedient.

“The state working committee of the party comprising all local government and wards chairmen during a meeting last week ratified all appointments and has given the power of attorney to elect into the vacancies of those suspended in the party, but pending the determinations of the committee.

“The governor has the support for the party, the national working committee has respect for the present state executives, so, who again now can come to challenge the authority of the two?”

“They are not quoting constitution; they were only acting on doing what they wanted, because when they said party is the leader of government, I don’t see a situation where party can be a leader to the governor; the governor is the one sponsoring the party,” Faleye said.

The state chairman continued:

“Senator Clement Awoyelu, who is the chairman of the Board of Trustees, said the governor is the overall leader of the party in the state.

“I was not aware that the suspended state secretary of the party, Mr Tope Aluko, was shot by an unknown group of assailants last week Friday, I heard it on radio.”

He further described the situation as unfortunate, but affirmed that no one heard of such incident among his own team of executives.

Tope Aluko was reported to have been shot by a group of unknown assailants on his way to the state party secretariat in Ado last week, Friday, July 31. The victim has sustained bullet wounds was reportedly recuperating at an undisclosed hospital.

Meanwhile, a disciplinary committee was set up last week to look at the allegations levied against the four key executive members of the party and come up with appropriate recommendations.

The committe is headed by a serving state commissioner in the state, Mr Kola Kolade, and they have only a week more to submit their report.
