Nigeria Stops Thousands Of Home-Grown Wannabe Terrorists From Joining Islamic State

The country’s immigration agency informed that thousands of aspiring terrorists, willing to join the Islamic State, have been prevented from leaving Nigeria.

Over a period from the beginning of 2014 to March 2015 as many as 24,000 people were stopped from leaving Nigeria, the country’s immigration agency informed.

Many of those stopped are believed to be aspiring terrorists willing to join jihadist movement of the Islamic state and other foreign extremist militant sects. “The terrorist group has a syndicate that arranges travel documents, visas, ticket and money for their recruits,” was said in a statement issued officially be the immigration agency.

Being Africa’s most populous state with high poverty rates, Nigeria represents attractive recruitment base for various extremist movements. That’s why the agency described Nigeria as a “catchment area for recruiters because of the high number of jobless people“.
