A rare two-headed cobra has been born in China around two weeks ago and has already become a little celebrity in Yulin City of Guangxi region.

Huang Pan, a snake breeder, got the surprise of his life after finding the two-headed reptile in an empty snake shell.

According to the snake owner, the serpent has two heads that move independently but does not drink or eat anything since it was born.

The man plans to hand the odd animal over to the zoo, where, he hopes, the snake will get appropriate care and will have chances for survival.

Zookeeper Li Keqi said: “The snake has been alive for 10 days now and has been with us for two, during which time it has already changed its skin once. 

But despite the snake’s stable condition now, there is no way of telling whether it will be able to live on, as it is still not eating or drinking water.”

Polycephalys is a condition of having more than one head. There are many occurrences of multi-headed animals, in real life. Snake heads may attack and even attempt to swallow each other.

Thus, polycephalic animals survive poorly in the wild, though some have been reported to live a full life and even reproduced with the offspring born normal.
