As ICPC Begins Probe, Amaechi Runs To President Buhari For Help

Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state, has on September 4 visited President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

Two politicians hold a closed door meeting, but it considered that they discussed the issue of possible corruption charges against the ex-governor.

Amaechi, who is widely expected to be a key player in President Buhari’s administration, was the head of the chairman campaign team during the last presidential poll.

Former governor was surprisingly unnoted in favour of the little known Babachir David Lawal.

Insiders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said that Amaechi was turned down after Nyesom Wike, incumbent Rivers state governor, submitted a damning report on his predecessor to Nigerian leader.

Wike had formed a seven man judicial committee of enquiry to probe the sale of some state assets as well as the projects for which funds were supposedly released but not executed.

A few days ago, launched an investigation against Amaechi together eight other former governors.

APC sources fear that ex-governor may now be so corrupt, that it would be impossible for President Buhari to appoint him to his administration.

The two men met in the presidential villa in Abuja for about an hour, while the details of their meeting have not been disclosed.

Ted Ikuru, former Rivers state deputy governor, supposed that his former chief spent N812m (£2.6m) to furnish his private residence, continuing that the former administration also spent N4.96bn on the proposed Justice Adolphus Karibi Whyte Hospital with no structures on the ground.
