Boko Haram: Nigerian Army Destroys All Terrorists’ Camps

The Nigerian army recently deployed 8,700 strong regional force at designated sectors, under the newly-restructured multinational joint task force (MNJTF), in a bid to totally annihilate the insurgent group, Boko Haram.

The Nigerian troops have been tasked with utterly destroying the jihadists centred in the northeast of Nigeria, a mission which, report affirms, is soon to be accomplished.

According to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), the Nigerian troops have destroyed all known Boko Haram terrorists’ camps and cells within the troubled region.

Colonel Rabe Abubakar, the director of defence information (DDI), made this known to journalists at his maiden media interaction which held at the DHQ, Abuja.

Abubakar declared that the enemies have been vanquished. He said terrorist movement has been mortally wounded and so the members of the sect would never hold or capture any part of the Nigeria’s territory.

“These terrorists have been subdued, even if they are adopting other means and as they are restratagising, we are also doing same.

“We have been coordinating on the air and ground assault to make sure that these terrorists hideouts are completely decimated. As I am speaking to you all the terrorists camps have completely been wiped out.

“So right now, they are completely in disarray, having no command and control of where to plan. We have even taken over the their camps that most of them have even abandoned their bases and blended within towns and communities. We have also apprehended some of them and very soon move back to their communities,” he said.

The army’s spokesman was optimistic that the military was making a lot of headways and achievements. He noted that the Nigerian people must come to the realization that Boko Haram is no longer strong enough to hold ground.

“We must begin to think of the nation. I am assuring you that they will never again recapture the territory taken from them, because what is happening right now with the deployment of troops, equipment and morale will ensure that,” Abubakar  said.

The military chief informed that the progress made was as a result of new strategies adopted by the new service chiefs, which includes constant morale boosting and visit to the troops on the front line. These strategies Abubakar says has introduced a new dimension in the military.

It is worthy to note that the deployment of sophisticated weapons, has really boosted the morale of the troops, giving them a combating edge against the terror in the North East.

Also, following the adequate supply of weapons, the issue of desertion, and lack of motivation have become a thing of the past.

The emphasis placed on credible training and retraining on the sanctity of human rights observance and protection of the combatants in the battle fields, has also an improved enforcement of rule and relations to international standard.

However, experts advice that measures be put in place to ensure safety in areas where the military is now carrying out mop-up operations to rid the environs of mines.
