Buhari: President to travel to New York on September 24

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to travel to New York on Thursday, September 24, for the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

 

This was disclosed on Tuesday, September 22, via a statement released by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

The Nigerian President is expected to hold talks with UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon, United States President, Barack Obama, President Francois Hollande of France and British Prime Minister, David Cameron while in New York.

According to the statement, he will also meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, President Vladmir Putin of Russia, President Xi Jinping of China and Prime Minister Narenda Modi of India.

The Nigerian President will also attend the World Leaders Summit on Violent Extremism.

Ban Ki Moon had invited Buhari to attend the summit during the former’s recent visit to Nigeria.

Buhari will be accompanied on the trip by the Governors of Sokoto, Kaduna and Niger States, the National Security Adviser and the Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defence, Finance, Health, Industry, Trade and Investment.

He will conclude his visit to New York on Tuesday, September 29 and leave the city for Abuja on the same day.
