In Lagos: Court remands baker for allegedly stabbing friend to death
Yunus, thereafter, picked up a kitchen knife which he used in stabbing the deceased on the left side of his head," he said.
A 44-year-old baker, Obafemi Yunus, was on Tuesday remanded in prison by an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing his friend on the head which resulted to his death.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Ajibade, ordered that the accused be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons for 30 days, pending release of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The plea of the accused, a resident of No. 21, Church St. Makoko, facing a one-count charge of murder was not taken.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, had told the court that the offence was committed on May 18 at about 11.30 p.m. at Makoko Junction, Yaba, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused and the deceased, Peters Ajayi, 38, had a misunderstanding because of money which eventually led to a brawl.
"Yunus, thereafter, picked up a kitchen knife which he used in stabbing the deceased on the left side of his head," he said.
Ighodalo said the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011, which prescribes death sentence for convicts.
The case was adjourned till Oct. 19.
