Liberia Education: Hope rises as EU pledges N2.4bn for Sirleaf's country

The European Union (EU) has pledged to provide an N2.4 billion naira grant to support Liberia as President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf works to revitalize her country's ailing education sector.

The European Union (EU) has pledged to provide an N2.4 billion naira grant to support Liberia as President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf works to revitalize her country's ailing education sector.

EU Ambassador and Head of Delegation in Liberia, Tiina Intelmann, made the revelation while addressing a press conference in Monrovia recently, the Liberia News Agency (LINA) reports.

Intelmann said the EU is working out a plan towards the towards improving "Basic Education" in Liberia with the provision of a US$12 million (N2,390,995,510) grant.

The EU official also revealed that the institution is collaborating with other partners to revamp Liberia's energy sector, especially the Mount Coffee Hydropower plant.

He revealed that the EU is involved in infrastructure, Agriculture, Health and Education in the West African country.

Liberia has been seeking international support as it tackles the devastating effects of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Last week, Nigeria send 33 to teach at different public secondary schools in the country.
