The APC says it would not influence the decision of the CCT on Senate President Bukola Saraki

Muiz Banire, the national legal adviser to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the rule of law would be strictly followed in the ongoing Code of Conduct (CCT) trial of Senate president, Bukola Saraki.

Banire stated this after presenting the freedom of information (FOI) bill and Whistle-blower bill to the speaker of Oyo state House of Assembly, Michael Adeyemo.

The former commissioner for employment in Lagos state noted that the party would not influence the decision of CCT over Saraki or any other person, adding that Saraki is still being presumed innocent until proven otherwise by a competent court.

He corroborated the position of people in some quarters that Saraki should resign his position as the president of the Senate just like the immediate past Prime Minister of Iceland, Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson, did as matter of morality.

Speaking on the bills, Banire disclosed that a federal legislation does not have a nationwide application because it is in the residual list of the constitution, not an item under the exclusive legislative list or concurrent list.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly on Tuesday, April 12, resumed plenary with pending issues in focus for the lawmakers to deliberate on.

The Senate is likely to deliberate on call for the resignation of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki due to his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal as well as some revelations linking him to the Panama deal.
