Reacting however to this development, Ahmed said the protest was staged by those he described as miscreants coordinated by the PDP to destabilise the APC ahead of the governorship election in the state.

Ahmed made this remarks while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, September 6.

He said: “We know these strange political bedfellows that contested for the party’s ticket and failed woefully will not relent on their unquenchable dubious intentions.

“They are licking their wounds following huge resources committed towards the failed project.

“The issue of corruption raised against Audu was absolute mischievous and nonsensical, and those against the former governor are being myopic and shamelessly displaying the highest level of stupidity.”

According to the APC chieftain, Audu’s case with the EFCC is a mere political persecution.

He said: “But it is still on record that Audu has contested four different elections since 2007 and was not disqualified. He contested in 2003, 2007 and 2011. So what are they talking about now? Are they just being mischievous?”

Audu who is standing trial for corruption emerged the He defeated 27 other contestants after polling 1,109 votes in the primaries ahead of his closest rival Yahaya Bello who received 703 votes.

The ex-governor had been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission shortly after his governorship tenure expired in 2003 but his trial is still on-going.

The Kogi state governorship election is scheduled to hold November 21, 2015.
