Revealed: Areas In Which President Buhari Is Failing

President Buhari’s administration has come under severe scrutiny. The president, who has been given kudos for his anti-corruption campaign, is also accused of relegating other aspects of the economy.

According to Alhaji Balarabe Musa, President Buhari has shown great promise in his fight against corruption, but runs the risk of failing to meet up with the requirements of other economic demands.

Balarabe stressed that unlike his exploits in the anti-graft war, Buhari is yet to make a profound statement in aspects of national economy, as it affects the grassroots.

He noted that there have been only glimpses of change in the power sector, but hoped the dream of full change can be actualised.

The elder statesman, who was governor in the second republic, went on to applaud the improvement in the supply of petroleum products, and hoped that the improvements would be sustained.

Balarabe also debated that the country’s economy was hurting more from privatisation than it was benefiting from it. He insisted that Nigeria returns back to systems that put public interest first.

The ex-governor said: “Government should go back to the system whereby the state plays the leading role in the economy to ensure peace, equality, dignity of the human person and progressive even development of the country.”

He concluded that it is only when the government has started to operate on the philosophy of people first interest, then can true change be experienced.

There are diverse views and opinions regarding President Buhari’s anti-graft war. Some believe that over emphasis on corruption and too much focus on corrupt officials, especially through the media, is affecting the quality of governance.

Some others, however, disagree. They are of the opinion that for the country to properly develop, then corruption must be eradicated at every cost. To them, corruption is the most deadly disease plaguing the nation.

The latter group further argue that the anti-graft exercise can run concurrently with governance and the improvement of other sectors of the economy.
