President Muhammadu Buhari has flagged off the 6th round of polio immunisation in Katsina State Saturday, September 5 with the immunisation of children at his residence in Daura.

This is to mark the formal commencement of the national immunization exercise in the state.

The President administered the polio vaccine in a brief ceremony to further demonstrate his commitment to the campaign to wipe out the virus from the country by 2017.

The event for the flag-off which was held at the President’s personal residence was attended by Katsina State governor Aminu Bello Masari and other key government officials.

Masari and the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq also administered the polio vaccines on some of the children.

In a brief remark, Governor Masari commended President Buhari for his commitment to polio eradication, stressing that the evidence of President Buhari’s good leadership had started to manifest.

Masari said the last reported case of polio was recorded in the state three years ago, assuring that his administration would step up measures to ensure total eradication of the state.

The governor urged parents to continue to present their children for the routine polio immunisation in their respective areas.

The state Coordinator, World Health Oganisation (WHO), Alh. Ali Yuguda, said that the fight against polio was recording tremendous success globally.

Also the chairman of Katsina State task force on polio eradication and the state deputy governor, Mannir Yakubu said the state was doing well in the area of routine immunisation with 90 per cent of children covered.

“We have distributed enough vaccine, trained staffs and intensified mobilisation,” Yakubu said,

Few weeks ago, President Muhammadu Buhari personally vaccinated one of his grandchildren against polio in Abuja to show commitment in eradicating the deadly virus in Nigeria.
