APC Praises Supreme Court’s Judgment As Wike Loses Appeal

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers state has praised the Nigerian Supreme Court for throwing out the appeal of the embattled governor of the state, Nyesom Wike to declare the sitting of Rivers state Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja as against the law.

The apex court had ruled that the President of the Court of Appeal did not err to have transfer the sitting of the tribunal to Abuja due to security reasons, Vanguard reports.

The court also agreed with the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which gave it nod to the decision of the tribunal to assume jurisdiction.

The APC in a signed statement by it publicity secretary, Chris Finebone, on October 27, said: “As a party, the APC is grateful that all seven eminent jurists of the Supreme Court unanimously agreed that there was sufficient violence before; during and after the elections to justify the relocation of the tribunal to Abuja and that the relocation of the tribunal to Abuja was to safeguard the lives of the tribunal chairman, members and witnesses. The apex court likened the violence in Rivers to that of a theatre of war such as is prevailing in the North-East.”

The party went further to say it was pleased with Justice Okoro who agreed that the election in Rivers state was a theatre of war and as such protection of life and property of members of the panel and other concerned persons which had necessitated the relocation.

The APC also thanked the justices of the apex court for holding on to justice and fairness in their dispensation of law.

The party further noted that the judgment had once more restore the hope, faith and confidence of Nigerians to the country’s judicial system.

In a related development, the APC had said that Wike will lose in a fresh free and fair election. The party went ahead to boast that its gubernatorial candidate, Dakuku Peterside, will mercilessly beat Wike in a free and fair election.

The main opposition party in the state said: “If Wike and PDP are convinced that they truly won any election in Rivers State, we challenge them not to appeal the tribunal judgement and let the people of Rivers State decide in a free and fair election.”
