Travel Guide: 6 easily accessible airports

These are some of the most easily accessed airports in the world.

Nothing could be more daunting than arriving in a foreign place and embarking on the somewhat treacherous journey from the airport to city.

This can be even more of a Herculean task if said airport is miles from town with no readily available (and affordable!) means of commuting.

There's nothing we like better than an airport that checks the above boxes and the following airports certainly do that.

  1. Dubai International Airport: This may be one of the most intimidating airports in the world, but we love the convenience of commuting here. Right from inside the airport, there's an indication for an area for those who choose to commute away from the airport via public transport, and just outside the doors, you have the option of either buses which make stops at several points of the city. Taxis are also available for those looking for a more direct option.

  2. O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, US: Though one of the busiest airports in the US and the world, it's also pretty easy to commute to and from here. The Blue Line on the Chicago Transit Authority's El train goes from O'Hare and stops all along the way, eventually ending up right downtown. The best part - it runs every couple of minutes and costs only $2.50 (about N497).

  3. El Prat Airport, Barcelona, Spain: About every 30 minutes, the RENFE train runs from the airport to downtown. Though it's nearly a 25-minute ride, one can always alight at Sants Estacio, Passeig de Gracia or the Clot stop, and then take the city Metro to wherever you specifically want to go.

  4. St. Paul International Airport, Minneapolis, US: In addition to the option of trains and buses, there's also the bike option of getting to this airport. The airport's Terminal 2 connects to a bike path that leads to downtown Minneapolis, and if you're ready for a spot of shopping, there are trains connecting to 17 locations including  Mall of America.

  5. Cologne Bonn Airport, Germany: Just when we thought things couldn't get any better, the train from Cologne's city center to the airport drops passengers off right in the middle of the airport at the Intercity-Express (ICE) station. Also, when heading downtown, take the S-train right to the city center. Cost - €2.60 (about N571).

  6. Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, US: The world's busiest airport may get more traffic than any other in the world and be located miles from downtown, but getting to and from it is not a problem as the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) runs trains between the airport and other stops throughout Atlanta frequently. There's also a drop off located right inside the domestic terminal for those travelling within the US. Cost - $2.50.
