Here goes another reason to love Nse Ikpe-Etim; not only is she an extremely talented, multiple award winning actress, she is an unapologetic foodie who is ‘addicted to food’.

Her Instagram profile states that she is an actor, food lover and scribbler (in that order). The actress started cooking at 13 and by 15, she could kill a goat. No joke! She loves animals but loves eating meat. Once, she tried to be a vegetarian and made many vegetarian meals but then gave up!

Of  love of cooking she once said: “I tried to stop but found out it is the only place I find truth… the kitchen.”

Despite her obsession with food, Nse manages to stay trim by being active.

Beef Wellington

Beef Wellington

Nse seems to love recipes from the renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. However, this did not stop her from putting her own spin on his beef wellington recipe. She added Cameroon pepper to the gravy and the reason isn’t far fetched as she wrote: “Cameroon pepper and my palette got married a long time ago…”.

She also used a shot of brandy in her duxelle (a duxelle is a mixture of chopped mushrooms, shallots or onions and herbs sautéed in butter or oil and made into a paste and used as a filling, stuffing, garnish or a spread in some cases. It is a notable ingredient in the classic beef wellington which is a dish of beef coated with pate and/or duxelle, wrapped with puff pastry and then baked and served with gravy).

When asked by a fan what she would pair the beef wellington with, Nse replied: “A medium to full bodied red wine depending on the quality of the beef used… I did not have wine… I broke the rules and had a single malt whisky.…”
