Senate Urges ASUU, Others To Begin Friendly Admission Policies
The senate on Tuesday, November 17 urged the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Parents Teacher Association (PTA), Academic Staff Union of Universities and all other stakeholders in the educational sector to establish friendly and sustainable admission policies.
In a three prayer motion raised by Joshua Lidani representing Gombe South senatorial district, the senate also urged the board to revert status quo and extend the validity of their report from one to three years.
Also, it directed the senate committee on education to inquire into circumstances surrounding the JAMB policy including all allegations of favoritism.
It also directed the committee to review the power of JAMB vis a vis admissions.
The sponsor of the motion, Lidani who reiterated the benefits of the policy according to JAMB said: “It will be beneficial to the universities with lower number of candidates to have more candidates.
“Candidates will have better chances for admission in the universities they are re-assigned to, contrary to situations where they will have to wait for admissions.

“Some of these candidates are posted far away from their parents which caused financial burden.”
Although the federal ministry of education has suspended the implementation of this policy, JAMB is still going ahead.
Meanwhile, a bill for an act to repeal the forestry research institute of Nigeria act 1973 which was meant to be considered for second reading was stood down to the next legislative day.
The bill was sponsored by Uche Ekwunife representing Anambra central senatorial district.
