#2015InReview: Nse Ikpe-Etim, Rita Dominic – Who Is Your Favourite Nollywood Actress Of The Year?

Now, there are a lot of Nollywood actresses, some made popular due to their attractive looks, hosting gigs, modelling contracts or endorsements but this list takes a look at actresses who have put up great performances during the year.

1. Chioma “Chigul” Omeruah

Popularly known as Chigul, Chioma Omeruah is in the top five not because of her comedy but because of her prowess an actress which I won’t have believed she had if I were told.

Chioma starred in the stage production Lagos Life, London Living which I watched and really commend her efforts. Her turn in Genevieve Nnaji’s Road To Yesterday was even more of an eye-opener for many. The audience at the Abuja premiere, for example, unanimously considered her the best part of the movie. For these and other roles in several short films, the consummate entertainer earns a spot on this list.

2. Adesuwa Etomi

The Imo State native had her eyes set for the big prizes this year when she starred as a confused lover in Falling. Not one to shy away from tough roles, she featured in other movies like A Soldier’s Story as well as the recently released Out of Luck. She was nominated as Best Actress at Exquisite Magazine’s Women Awards and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards her role in Falling. With a background in physical theatre, musical theatre and performing arts at the City College, Coventry, United Kingdom, I believe 2016 will be great for her.

3. Linda Ejiofor

Linda making my list is somewhat confusing, but for some reason I feel she is underrated in the industry. Pity party aside, the Abia State native and second of five children acted hard in 2015, starring in movies like Heaven’s Hell, Soldier’s Story and just recently Out of Luck. In 2016, she will star in one of the anticipated productions for the year, Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo’s Suru’Lere.

Born Rita Uchenna Nkem Dominic Waturuocha of Mbaise, Imo State, this talented actress gave me goose bumps with her awesome performance in the 2014/15 Iyore as well as in Desmond Elliot’s Rosemary’s Fight, earning her an automatic spot on my favorite list. Asides her acting roles, Dominic is also a producer, with movies like The Meeting, which earned her numerous awards. For 2016, she partners once again with The Meeting director, Mildred Okwo, to deliver Suru’Lere, a movie she stars in and also produces.

5. Nse Ikpe Etim

Nse earned a lot of commendation for her role as Ajiri Shagaya in The Visit. The actress kept really busy in 2015, aligning strategically with productions that constantly place her name in the list of credits. Asides staring in The Visit, she featured alongside Bimbo Akintola in Heaven’s Hell as well as in Mo Abudu’s Fifty. In 2016, Nse will feature in three movies: AY’s A Trip to Jamaica, Ego Boyo’s A Hotel Called Memory and a South African production called Shushh.
