Senator Gives Quarterly Account To Constituency (Photos)

Oyo Central Senatorial District Senator, Monsurat Sunmonu has conducted a constituency tour and held town hall meetings with constituents in the 11 Local governments she represents.

The 11 local governments are Afijio, Akinyele, Atiba, Egbeda, Lagelu, Ogo-Oluwa, Oluyole, Ona-Ara, Oyo East, Oyo West and Surulere Local governments where she gave feedback on the progress the Federal Government was making in areas of her senatorial district:

Part of the duties in 2015 she shouldered as her oversight function is the completion of the Oyo-Ogbomoso portion of the Ibadan-Ilorin expressway. Sen. Sunmonu explained that she had taken it upon herself to look into the cause of the delay in completion of the said road.

According to her, required documents were obtained from the Federal Government and the contractor adding that efforts were geared and all relevant papers forward to the Federal Minister of Works with assurances of speedy completion in the 2016 fiscal year.

The Senator also provided a public Laboratory at the Egbeda market/garage. She also said she has commenced one at Akinyele Local Government.

The former Speaker of Oyo state said she has assisted in promotion of educational program organised under the umbrella of an NGO, MOSWEF which made available over 250+ JAMB/UTME forms to exceptional but less privileged students within her constituency.

Speaking further, she said in her capacity as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, she has met with Ambassadors to Nigeria from Britain, South Korea, Turkey, Taiwan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia among others nations in efforts to foster better relationships to the good of Nigerians.

She equally claimed she has mitigated the controversy of deportation of Nigerians from the UK, by clarification of numbers and reasons for deportation along with the Nigerian Minister for Foreign Affairs and the British High Commissioner.

Sunmonu also attended the Climate Change Conference in Paris France #COP21 which committed all countries to cut carbon emissions for the first time in history. This is a great development for the future of the world.

At the town hall Meetings Sunmonu informed her constituents that she was working hard to secure employment for the Youths of Oyo central. She said that she had been discussing with government departments and promised that once the new budget is implemented job opportunities will come up.

Present at the meetings were representatives of the High Chiefs, the league of Imams, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), NURTW, Hairdressers association, Barbers associations, Film and Actors Association, many politicians and artisans.

Also present was Baba Zaria Party Chairman of Oyo Central, Chief Sanda of Lagelu and party Chairmen from the 11 Local Governments, Women Leaders and Youth Leaders. Chief Ojuade of OgoOluwa, Chief Aserawo representing the Aseradu, Chief S. M. Akinyele, the Oyo Messi, Chief Ona Isokun, Olujado of Ijado, the Iya Lojo of Oyo, Leaders of the party and Hon Akimoye olafisoye wasiu.

They all commended Senator Sunmonu for keeping her electoral promise to hold quarterly town hall meetings and for giving feedback.

Baba Sanda said “our senator is non-partisan. She has held meetings with Christians and Muslims which is good for our development. How many times do regular people get to interact with heir senator. Sunmonu is setting the pace.”
