PHOTOS: You Won’t Believe What Ngige Did When Naira, Gifts Rained On Him During Dad’s Burial
It was a gathering of the high and mighty in Alor community, Anambra, southeast Nigeria, when Nigeria’s minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige received guests after burying his late father, Pa Pius Okonkwo Ngige on Saturday, January 22, 2016.
After the funeral ceremony on Friday, January 22, 2016, the former Anambra state governor hosted friends and well wishers to a grand reception at the St John’s Catholic Church, Alor.
The dignitaries kept pouring into the sleepy community to condole with the former senator of the federal republic on the demise of his aged father who died at 105, and the atmosphere was nothing short of a carnival-like environment with entertainment of guests incessant.
On Saturday, at his gigantic residence, the medical doctor started receiving guests as early as 9.00am and they kept increasing in their numbers.
In fact, the house became a Mecca of sorts as group after group brought gifts and other valuables to the former governor in torrents. Alcoholic drinks, cash gifts, were top on the list of items that the minister got from his friends and close associates.
The highlights of the event, however, was when the former senator turned into a pastor as he rained prayer upon prayer on everyone who came forward to make any presentation.
“For every naira you have spent, God will reward you millions,” he kept saying in Igbo language to a loud roar of “Amen” and a now common chant of ‘Onwa’, a title with which Ngige is commonly known within and outside the region.
