$2.1bn arms probe: EFCC explains why Metuh has a case to answer

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court should compel the the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh to explain the alleged role he played in the illegal diversion of N400 million from the $2.1 billion meant for the procurement of arms.
It said the sum of N400 million was electronically wired from an account of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) operated with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to Metuh, through account no. 0040437573, which his firm operated with Diamond bank Plc.

EFCC alleged that Metuh had received the sum of $2 million of $47 million which former president Goodluck Jonathan shared to chieftains of the PDP prior to the 2015 presidential election.
EFCC said it had through oral and documentary evidence that was presented by eight witnesses it brought before the high court, established a prima-facie criminal case to warrant Metuh to enter his defence to the seven-count criminal charge pending against him.
Consequently, it urged Justice Abang to dismiss the no-case-submission Metuh filed through a consortium of four senior advocates of Nigeria led by Onyechi Ikpeazu.
Both Metuh and the EFCC will on Thursday, February 25, adopt their briefs of argument before the high court to enable trial Justice Abang to deliver judgment on the matter.
Recall that Abba Dabo, former special adviser on political matters to Namadi Sambo, the former vice president, has disclosed how Olisa Metuh paid him 25million for the purpose of publicity for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Meanwhile, the PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh has said that former president Goodluck Jonathan should witness in $2.1 billion arms deals scam.
