Smoking did not exist in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) but the great religion of Islam has laid down general principles from which many laws are derived.

As a Muslim, it is very crucial that you know whether or not the things you ingest will have a negative impact on your spiritual life.

Smoking did not exist in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) but the great religion of Islam has laid down general principles from which many laws are derived. From these principles, Muslim scholars have come to the conclusion that smoking is prohibited (Haram).

1. Likely to kill you: "And do not kill yourselves" (Qur’an 4:29)

2. Smoking could affect your life negatively:" And do not throw yourselves into destruction" (Qur’an 2:195)

3. You spend money on something that does not enrich you: "(…But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift, Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the devils, and the Devil (Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord" (Qur’an 17:26-27)

4. You hurt yourself: “be not cast by your own hands to ruin; and do good. Lo! Allah loveth the beneficent.” (Al-Baqarah:195)

5. Smoking is poison:  “Whomsoever drinks poison, thereby killing himself, will sip this poison forever in the Hell-Fire.”  (An-Nisaa’: 29)

6. Keep yourself healthy: "Make not your own hands contribute to your destruction..." (Qur'an 2:195)

7. Smoking disturbs those around you:  "Those who annoy believing men and women undeservedly bear on themselves a glaring sin" (Qur'an 33:58).

8. Second hand smoke (breathing in someone else's smoke can cause harm): "Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day should not hurt his neighbor."

9. Nauseous smell: The Prophet Muhammad said: “Whoever has eaten from such greens as garlic, onions or leek should keep away from our mosque.”

10: Giving it up: "They immediately poured out all the alcohol that they had and said, "We desist our Lord, we desist!"
