Marilyn Ogar: Why ex DSS spokesperson dragged FG to Industrial Court

Ogar was demoted and transferred to Borno state, and subsequently sacked by the Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura, after Buhari came into power.

The former spokesperson of the Department of State Services (DSS), Marilyn Ogar  has sued the Federal Government for terminating her appointment.

Vanguard reports that the case is before the National Industrial Court (NIC), sitting in Abuja

Reports say Ogar dragged the government to the NIC, because:

1. She wants the court to declare that her appointment “has statutory flavor and same may only be lawfully determined strictly in accordance with the relevant provisions of the public service Rules.”

2. She also wants the Industrial Court to re-instate her and accord her all benefits due her rank.

3. She wants the court to rule formally on her demotion and subsequent sack.

Ogar was promoted during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration for handling the anti-terrorism campaign well.

She was however demoted and transferred to Borno state, and subsequently sacked by the Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura, after Buhari came into power.

Reports say she was promoted without regard for due process.

Other in some quarters feel it was a targeted at rubbishing some figures who the government felt were in support of former President Jonathan.

The National Industrial Court has exclusive jurisdiction in civil causes and matters relating to or connected with any labour, employment, trade unions, industrial relations and matters arising from workplace.
