Muslim basher Donald Trump storms to victory in US presidential race

 – Donald Trump wins the Republican New Hampshire primary in the U.S. presidential election.

 – Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders wins the Democrat primary in the same state.

 – Both political mavericks are now poised to win their parties’ nominations.

Republican candidate Donald Trump has stormed to victory in the latest round of the U.S. presidential election in the small state of New Hampshire.

The controversial and outspoken businessman, who came second in the last primary in Iowa, is on course to win more than double the amount of votes than the second place Republican candidate, Ohio Governor John Kasich.

Trump is on track to secure the Republican nomination

Trump, aged 69, has pledged to impose a temporary but total ban on all Muslims entering the United States if elected, including for business and tourism purposes.

He has also promised to deport millions of illegal immigrants, mostly Mexicans, and to build along the United States’ southern border.

In the Democratic party primary, self-described democratic socialist and Vermont senator Bernie Sanders won comfortably after coming second by less than 1% in Iowa.

Rank outsider Sanders could well become the Democratic candidate

Sanders, 74, who supports free university education for all, tax hikes on the super wealthy, and increased control over the banking sector, was 20 points ahead of his nearest rival, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, with 90% of votes counted.

Both Trump and Sanders, who represent the extreme right and left of American politics respectively, were dismissed as unelectable when they first announced their campaigns.

However, both political mavericks are poised to perform well in the next rounds of the primary elections in Nevada and South Carolina thanks to growing resentment of the political establishment.

Primaries are the first contests in the US presidential race in which states decide who becomes each party’s official candidate.

Each primary race is run by state governments and voting is done in a secret ballot and they earn delegates for the winning candidates who then vote for them at party conventions in July in which the final candidates are formally confirmed.

After each party has chosen a candidate, the nation will vote on who becomes the next president on November 8 this year.
