Hoodlums attack APC governorship candidate in Akure, Ondo state

Reports reaching naij.com revealed that an All progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo state, Segun Abraham, was at the weekend molested by political thugs in Akure.

National Mirror reports that Abraham was holding a political meeting with some APC leaders at Plaza Hotel in Akure when the hoodlums arrived the venue of the meeting and demanded for a ransom N400, 000 from him.

His refusal to yield to their demand infuriated the thugs who reportedly descended on him and members of his entourage. Four people sustained degrees of injuries in the process while the politician’s cloth was torn to shred.

The hotel manager identified as Ajanaku confirmed the incident, saying the timely intervention of policemen invited by the politician to secure the venue of the meeting saved his life and prevented the situation from degenerating.

The hotel manager, however, blamed the politician for not handling the situation with maturity. He said his approach enraged the hoodlums leading to the ugly incident.

He said: “As a politician and public figure, you need to be very careful in whatever you do. The caliber of his person is expected to be used to that type of situation. The hoodlums got wind of his presence in our hotel and invaded the place with the expectation to get something from him.

“I think they demanded for a sum of four hundred thousand Naira from him and he eventually gave them hundred thousand Naira to calm the situation. I thank God that no live was lost.”

A police spokesman in the state, Femi Joseph, said his office had not been briefed about the incident but assured that the police will investigate the matter to prevent future re-occurrence.
