Call for DSS DG’s sack aimed at shielding IPOB members
– A group, New Initiative for Credible Leadership said the call for the sack of the director general of the Department of State Service, Lawal Daura is uncalled for
-The group said the call for sack is aimed at shielding members of the Indigenous People of Biafra from facing trial
– The group urged President Muhammadu Buhari to order immediate investiagation into the mass graves discovered by the DSS in Abia state
Some group of Nigerians have condemned the call for the sack of the director general of the Department of State Service (DSS), Lawal Daura.
The group, New Initiative for Credible Leadership said an ultimatum given a civil society organization, Campaign for Democracy is uncalled for, ill-timed and aimed at shielding members of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
The group in a statement signed by its executive secretary, Stephen Onwu said the call for Daura’s sack is a show that the time of reckoning has come for the IPOB group to stand trial for all allegations against them.

“One is therefore at a loss as to why CD or IPOB has any interest in what happens to the “animals in a zoo. On a serious note, CD’s call for Daura’s sack was made to detract from the severity of the atrocities that the DSS uncovered in the forest in Abia state where the bodies of Nigerians killed in yet to be explained circumstances were found in shallow graves.
“If those citizens were killed by kidnappers as claimed in the CD statement, why were the federal law enforcement agencies not brought in to investigate? IPOB members hurriedly burying the bodies without notifying the victims’ next of kin, police or other security agencies implies several things,” Onwu said.
Onwu added: “IPOB could be shielding the kidnappers or were the kidnappers. It is also a confirmation of what IPOB has always claimed that it does not recognized the Federal Government of Nigeria and its agencies hence its members took the law into their own hands. But overall, the starting point is for those arrested by DSS to explain their roles in the killings since that is the information available to law enforcement.”

He urged Daura not to be deceived by the empty threats and blackmail aimed at thwarting government’s plan to expunge corruption from Nigeria.
Onwu also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to order a fast track action towards getting to the root of the killings and mass graves discovered in Abia state.
“President Buhari must order similar action on other incidents involving the loss of Nigerian life in other states of the federation as it is essential to reaffirm the sanctity of life in the country in line with globally prevalent norms.
“DSS should be commended for daring to go into that evil forest without which Nigerians wouldn’t have known the magnitude of horror being committed by IPOB while the families of the victims would have assumed that their loved one were only missing,” he said.
Last week, the DSS in an allegation accused the IPOB of killing five Hausa-Fulanis in Isuikwuato local government area of Abia state.
The DSS in a statement said it discovered over 50 mass graves, out of which 5 were identified as Hausa-Fulani’s killed by IPOBs in the state.
