Face reality and accept your defeat – Wike to Amaechi

– Governor Nyesom Wike called on his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, to stop distracting his administration

– He urged Amaechi and the APC to face reality and accept their defeat in the rerun elections in Rivers

– Wike noted that his administration deployed resources and expertise to correct the failures of the past state government and revive Rivers

Rotimi Amaechi, the immediate past governor of Rivers state and incumbent minister of Transport, believes Gov Wike is a threat to democracy.

Wike calls on Amaechi to accept the reality that the rerun election has woefully been lost by his party.

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has again warned his predecessor and the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, against distracting his administration.

He also called on Amaechi and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to accept their defeat in the rerun elections and allow the government to focus on the rebuilding of Rivers state.

The Nation reports that Wike appealed to Amaechi on Thursday, April 7, while declaring open a two-day retreat for his key officials tagged “strengthening capacity, efficiency and service delivery for sustainable development”.

In his speech, the governor noted that the state was wrongly managed by the previous administration, therefore, his government is working hard to revive the state.

Wike added that his administration has deployed resources and expertise to correct the failures and appealed to Amaechi to allow the state move forward in peace and stability.

“I call on the former governor and leader of the APC in the state to accept the reality that the rerun elections has woefully been lost by his party and that Rivers people have, again, overwhelmingly re-affirm their confidence, trust and preference for the PDP.

“Therefore, spare us the agony of unnecessary hostility and allow Rivers state to move forward in peace and security. We expect you to use your high office and connections to attract meaningful development projects to the state as I did during my time; not senseless and unpatriotic distractions. Enough is enough.

“All of us are aware of the sorry state of things in Rivers state before May 29, 2015. Between October 25, 2007 and May 28, 2015 over three trillion naira accrued from all revenue sources to the state. Yet, they did nothing tangible with that money to develop the state. Instead, they squandered and diverted most of this money into private pockets through bogus and ill-fated projects,” he said.

According to Wike, all key projects initiated by the Amaechi administration were either abandoned or not executed at all. However, he noted that his administration has already begun the process of developing the state by initiating projects and programmes that will revive the economy of the state.

Meanwhile, Felix Obuah, the chairman of Rivers state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, expressed disappointment that rather than help President Buhari to proffer solution to the numerous problems on his head,
