“My father was a hardworking man. When it is time for him to be rewarded for his effort towards the progress of transport business in Somolu, he died suddenly. He just bought a bus three weeks ago to complement the one he had before, and it was the same bus he used to siphon the fuel which he filled into the generating set which later caught fire,” she cried.

Shabi’s wife, Rachael, was said to have gone naked when she saw her husband and two daughters, Wuraola and Shakirat burning.

Rukayat Ibrahim, a neighbour, narrated how the tragedy occurred. He said Alhaji Shabi had returned from work and asked his daughter to prepare tea for him.

“As Shakirat put the water on a stove, her father was filling their generator beside her, but they did not know the generator was leaking. Wuraola was standing beside her father with her phone’s light pointing at the generator. That is all I could remember. I don’t even want to think about it. It is a big loss to this community,” he lamented.
