Mom thought she was pregnant with one baby… But quintuplets pop out!

This 25-year-old Indian woman went into labor expecting only one new child. But five popped out instead!

All five baby girls were born prematurely, weighing between 1 and 1.5 kilograms (about 2.2 to 3.3 pounds). But the report indicates that they are healthy.

The new mother, Manita Singh, was worried about the pregnancy because she gave birth to a stillborn son two years ago.

Her husband, Mahesh Singh, said: “I am extremely grateful to God for blessing us with not one but five children.”

He added: “We were heartbroken when we lost our first child, a son, two years ago. I believe God has compensated the loss. I only hope that they all survive and I can give them a wonderful life.”

The parents could not afford an ultrasound during pregnancy, and did not deem it necessary. So they were surprised at the birth of the quintuplets.

Dr. Tekam, who led the team of doctors in the delivery, said: “This is the first case in my career where I have delivered five babies through normal birth.”

The babies are currently in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
