Education Is Priceless: Lives of children endangered daily in a bid to get to school [Photos]

Pupils returning from school to their village, Atule'er, at the top of the mountain

The reports reveal that the school students live in a 'cliff village' known as Atule'er, which is reportedly situated on the top of a 2,624-foot-tall peak in south-west China, while their school is situated at the foot of the mountain.

Shocking photos have surfaced online showing the risk school children have to undertake to be able to attend school from their secluded village on top of a mountain.

The reports reveal that the school students live in a 'cliff village' known as Atule'er, which is reportedly situated on the top of a 2,624-foot-tall peak in south-west China, while their school is situated at the foot of the mountain.

The villagers who have been taking this route for years, are revealed to make the trip down the cliff in an hour, and roughly an hour and a half, to make it back up.

Sadly, it is not so simple for this children who have to make the climb their heavy school bags and end up spending about two hours to climb 17 cliff ladders, while they are being escorted by at least three adults.

This hectic, not to talk of dangerous trip has become a valid reason for some of the villagers to refuse educating their children.

However, the villagers are reportedly content with their life on the mountain as the village is reported to be fertile, helping the villagers to be self sufficient with their good land resources and high yield of crops.

The reports go on to reveal that this extremely dangerous trip up and down the mountain has killed about eight people so far, as the difficult journey can be made even more so if they encounter rain or snow on the trip.

Even though the villagers would like for the government to build a road leading to and from the village, the high costs and the small population has hampered that decision.

Building a road to the village would reportedly cost about 60 million yuan (£6.2 million), which the government believes is not cost effective considering the populace.
