Diame is just one of a huge slew of players with Premier League experience in this Hull team – they kept most of their relegated side together while adding loanees from Arsenal and Manchester United, and they convinced veteran attacker Shaun Maloney to join up too.

They finished the season with the second-best goal differential. There’s no question that they deserve to be in the Premier League.

Recall that there was drama at the Riverside Stadium as Middlesbrough confirm they will play in the English Premier League next season.

Tears of joy and pitch invasion ensued, right after the referee signaled the end of the game. Striker Aitor Karanka was the hero as he netted his side’s goal in their 1-1 with Brighton on May 7, a strike which was enough to secure a second-placed finish in the Championship and automatic promotion for the club.

After 46 games,  Boro secured 89 points going into second position on goals difference ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion who are also on 89 points. Recall that on 24 May 2009, Middlesbrough were relegated to the Championship, ending their 11-year stay in the Premier League.

After 7 years in the Championship Middlesbrough secured promotion back to the Premier League on the 7th of May 2016. Burnley had earlier qualified to play in the Premier League after they defeated Queens Park Rangers 1 – 0 on May 2, to win the Championship.
