Sokoto, headquarters of the Caliphate, has seen it’s night landscape altered recently.

Residents have marveled at the new lighting system, installed by the administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, illuminating major highways across the ancient capital city.

From airport road to Gado Nasko Way, Lodge, Junaidu Road among others, many say the apart from lighting the highways at night, businesses have sprang in areas surrounding the street lights, while crime rates have fallen.

Government officials said the projects will continue until all streets are powered at night.

Recall that since Governor Akinwunmi Ambode announced the Lagos light-up project, the city has witnessed a dramatic change.

The reason for the light-up project is not unconnected to the spate of robbery and other crimes that affected the city during the first six months that Ambode was inaugurated as the governor of the state.
