Stressing he was excited about the direction the government of Nigeria is taking in the last one year.He also disclosed that his country would continue to partner with Nigeria.

“Britain is ready to work in partnership with Nigeria to ensure development and support the president in facing the challenges in the country.

“We have been discussing with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State to see how we can work with the state,” he stated.

He revealed that he got to Lagos in June 2015 and that one of his priorities was to know more about the governance of the state.

“My coming here is to build relationship with Lagos. This is the most important state in the country because it is the economic heartbeat of the country. It is one of the top five cities in the world going by its population and we are ready to work with Lagos State to build a strong relationship between Britain and the state,” he said.

In his response, Obasa, who thanked the British government for her role in the 2015 election in Nigeria, noted that he was optimistic the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration would be a success with the way it is currently running.

He told the guest that the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he is a part of, would ensure the economic development of the country.

“I would also like to say that infrastructural development is important, so our government would have to come up with economic policies that can assist most of the states that have not been able to pay the salaries of their workers,” he said.

He said working with the world to protect the people of the state, the lawmakers had passed laws to protect the rights of women and children against domestic violence.

He added that in 2015, the assembly approved the re-ordering of the 2015 budget and that this helped Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to procure security gadgets and vehicles for security personnel operating in the state.

This, according to him, is the reason for the relative peace being enjoyed by the residents of the state.

Recalling that Nigeria’s relationship with Britain dates back to over 100 years, the Lagos speaker said Nigeria was ready work with any country ready to help develop Nigeria and Lagos state.

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly had a month ago, called on President Buhari to find solution to the lingering fuel scarcity.

Vanguard reported that the call was made following a motion raised by Sanai Agunbiade, the majority leader of the House, and seconded by Segun Olulade, the chairman of the House committee on Health.

“In Lagos, every minute counts. Many workers now get queries for coming late to work. People now store petrol at homes.

“Prices of goods and commodities are high, and fares have increased. The president should address the issue of fuel scarcity and deal with everyone involved,” Agunbiade had said.
