It was reported by This Day that Siasia chose these set of players because of the need required for his younger squad and the familiarity with the players while working as Super Eagles coach.
According to This Day, Godfrey Oboabona did not make the cut owing to Turkish club, Çaykur Rizespor’s insistence of not releasing the player for the Olympics and that suggested the re-call of Kenneth Omeruo who is eligible to play as an under-age.
With the presence of Super Eagles big figures in the Olympic squad, Dream Team VI is expected to compete squarely with Zlatan Ibrahimovich’s Sweden, James Rodrigues Colombia and Japan in their group.
