The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to establish the State Neighborhood Safety Agency and for the control of Vigilante Corps activities in the state.

The bill was passed into law after its third reading at the plenary sitting on Monday, June 20, 2016. It has thus been sent to the state Governor, Mr. Akjnwunmi Ambode for his assent.

The bill was initiated to further strengthen the state security structure and activities especially  at the grassroots level and aimed at improving general security in the state.

Also, the bill would reduce criminal activities such as Boko Haram insurgency, the incessant cases of kidnapping, ritual killings, gang war and domestic violence among others as it is expected to nip in the bud crime at the grassroots.

The introduction of the bill was another giant stride in the management of security which is in consonance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto and the determination of the present administration at reducing crime rate in the State to the barest minimum for Lagosians and foreign investors which is expected to be a catalyst for economic development for the state in particular and the nation in general.

Also, the agency is meant to ensure that criminals are identified and made to account for their misdeeds.
