JUST IN: Gbenga Daniel rejects PDP chairmanship, read whom he supports

– Otunba Gbenga Daniel has stepped down to back Raymond Dokpesi for the post of the PDP chairman at the national convention

– Chief Dokpesi has promised to bring unity to PDP South West and win elections in the region

Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the longest-serving former governor of Ogun state, has abandoned the idea of putting forward his candidacy for a post of the of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman at the national convention scheduled for August 17 in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

Instead, the ex-governor has supported High Chief Raymond Dokpesi for the post stressing that the renown media businessman can restructure the party for the better. The governor announced the news during the meeting with Mr Dokpesi and his team at Conference Hotel & Suites, Sagamu.

He said: “I have known High Chief for more than four decades and it beholds on me that I should support him whenever he is seeking any position.”

Chief Dokpesi, on his part, thanked Otunba Daniel, and pledged to bring unity to PDP South West and win elections in the region.

Ogun is the 13th state visited by Dokpesi and his team made up of former Chief Whip of the senate, Victor Kassim Oyofo; Edo state PDP organizing secretary, Hon. Henry Duke Tenebe; former chairman of PDP Kaduna, Chief Abubakar Gaiya Haruna and his Nasarawa counterpart, Chief Yunaha Iliya; Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara, Prince Lekan Tejuoso, Benson Olaoluwa, Sola Kuti among others.

Recall that Raymond Dokpesi was the organising committee chairman of the People’s Democratic Party national conference in 2015.
