Nigerian troops ensured Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest did not escape unhurt as they set up an ambush for the insurgents.

A statement issued by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the military spokesperson, revealed that two fleeing terrorists were killed in the ambush while one escaped with gun shot injuries.

The statement read: “Troops on blocking position in Pulka yesterday Friday 29th July 2016, ambushed and killed 2 fleeing Boko Haram terrorists. It is equally believed one of the terrorists escaped with gun shot wounds.

“The troops also recovered 1 AK-47 rifle with registration number S 77411, a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with registration number FN 131908, one Motorcycle, 1 Bicycle and 5 Fabrique Nationale (FN) rifle magazines. Other items recovered from the terrorists include 1 AK-47 rifle magazine loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 67 rounds of 7.62mm linked (NATO) ammunition and Tecno brand of mobile telephone handset with NEXTTEL SIM card, as well as sacks of foodstuffs.

“The troops have continued their routine operations maintaining vigilance to prevent escaping Boko Haram terrorists out of Sambisa forest through that axis.”

Meanwhile, the border town of Damasak has been finally recaptured and occupied by the Multi National Joint Taskforce (MNJTF) on Thursday, July 28.

Damasak is a trading town in Nigeria’s Borno state near Niger’s border and is about 200km (120 miles) from the state’s capital Maiduguri.

The town was overrun by the Boko Haram insurgents, who began their insurgency in 2009 to create an Islamic state, at the end of 2014.

It is one of the last frontiers of Boko Haram terrorists. Colonel Muhammad Dole, spokesman of MNJTF, revealed this in a brief statement to PRNigeria saying that the soldiers have also cleared the terrorists from the surrounding villages.
