The Rivers state branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged there is a big move by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the Saturday, July 30 Rivers re-run poll.

The PDP made this known during a press briefing at Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital. The party likewise said it had unravelled a purported plan to nab some of its party stalwarts in Rivers state prior to rescheduled re-run elections.

Samuel Wonosike, Rivers state PDP spokesman stated that the plot by the APC was part of an alleged game plan to rig the poll. However, Wonosike issued a warning that the PDP will fight any move that will run contrary to the Electoral Act and the constitution during the elections.

The Rivers state PDP spokeman said his party was not frightened of going into the elections, adding that “the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, should ensure a level playing field for all participating political parties.”

Wonosike advised President Muhammadu Buhari to call the leaders of the APC in Rivers state to order, stating that they should be warned against any form violation of the electoral process.

The Rivers state PDP image maker made referred to a Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt order in suit number PHC/845/2016 preventing the police and other security agencies from apprehending or intimidating him.

The PDP spokesman said he had “to approach the court some time ago when I got wind of alleged plot to arrest me on trumped up charges,” adding that since the judgement was given on May 25, 2016, any attempt to apprehend him will be a violation of the subsisting court order.

Wonosike was reported to have said false allegations were purportedly brought against him with intentions to apprehend him before the Saturday, July 30 rerun elections.

While the APC and PDP are ready to go into the Rivers re-run poll in some days, about three days ago, some governors on the platform of the APC were in Edo state to officially flag off of the APC governorship campaign of Godwin Obaseki for the election coming up on September 10.
