 46 street hawkers  have been arrested by operatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) b  rigade for obstructing traffic flow along major highways in the state.

The hawkers were nabbed after Lagos state implemented a law, saying anyone found guilty of selling or buying in traffic would be jailed for six months with an option of N90,000 fine, a situation which a group has seriously countered.

The Nation reports that the hawkers were arrested at Maryland, Ikeja, Nitel and Mobolaji Bank Anthony axis in the state between 4pm to 6pm.

Adding that the offenders have been arraigned at the Samuel Ilori court, Ogba, Lagos.

A statement by the Agency’s public Affairs Officer (PRO) Rahmat Alabi said the arrest was in furtherance of its campaign against unbridled sales of goods especially in undesignated areas of the state.

She said their arrest was to deter other erring traders from indulging in street hawking as it is not only illegal, but unsafe.

The agency vowed to rid the streets of illegal hawking in accordance with stipulated law.

KAI Marshal General (KMG) and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Amusat Jimoh said: ”tough actions would be taken against offenders in the renewed efforts at combating the menace in the metropolis.”
