Suspend Saraki, Dogara Now – Group Urges APC

The Christian and Muslims Peace Advocacy and Enlightenment Initiatives (CAMPAEI), has  called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to suspend Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

The group said suspension is the only option to instil discipline in the party  warning the APC that the actions of the duo and their supporters could encourage other members of the party to go against it wishes.

The group also said Saraki and Dogara could frustrate Buhari’s fight against corruption.

Speaking to the Daily Sun in Abuja, National president of the group, Prophet Iwu Maurice Ogbu, said the way Saraki and Dogara emerged as national assembly leaders is what led to the crisis in the house.

The leader alleged that the manner in which elements in the party reacted to corruption probes by Buhari led to the manner of Saraki and Dogara’s emergence.

He said: “The aim of these powerful Nigerians, who encourage and finance rebellion against the party’s democratic positions is to frustrate the fight against corruption.

“Before the party knew what was happening, the process of electing leaders at the National Assembly was hijacked by corrupt and polluted interests that took advantage of the inordinate contest among party members as a loophole for frustrating APC government’s efforts in its quest to fight corruption to a standstill,” Ogbu said.

He also alleged that the national assembly leaders who were former members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were in the APC to cause confusion.

The group then urged the APC to suspend the national assembly leaders which would instill discipline in the party.

In a related development, APC house of representative party loyalists have rejected Dogara’s proposal to zone principal offices in the House to reflect the spirit of Federal Character.

Dogara earned the wrath of APC loyalists because of the letter he wrote in response to the one written to him earlier by the national chairman of the party John Oyegun nominating members to be elected as principal officers in the House.
