Amaechi Never Gave Me Hand Over Notes – Gov Wike

Governor Nyesom Wikeof Rivers state has denied allegations that he is probing his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi as a vindictive exercise claiming it is a way of shedding light on some areas of the former governor’s government which are shady.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike said that the recommendation of the probe panel would be used to determine what his government will do to Amaechi.

The governor however refused to say if he will be handing over findings of the probe panel to anti-graft agencies for inquires.

Daily Post quotes him saying:  “The essence of the judicial commission does not have to do with witch-haunting anybody, but to understand things we could not have understood.

“If he had worked with the transition committee we set up, the committee would have asked one or two questions. No transition committee was set up by government (Amaechi’s administration).

“It is only our state that never had any transition committee. We set up our own transition committee. It made every communication; it wrote. They did not cooperate with it.”

He claimed that the former governor was using the media as a distraction from the irregularities of his government.

He added: “He (Amaechi) said he would use all constitutional and legal means. The commission is not an unconstitutional commission. It is a constitutional and legal commission.

“Nobody has been indicted. We only ask them to look into matters and ask one or two questions.”

Wike however added that Amaechi did not give him any handover notes. He said: “Let us start from the national level. When Jonathan was leaving, did he just handover just the villa? Did he not handover the whole government structure; from one ministry to the other?”

He claimed that the Permanent Secretary of the Government House did not give him a handover note.

Amachi and Wike has been involved in a war of words over allegations that Amaechi looted the state government house by removing all the valuables and spending the state money to fund projects for his party and his for his personal use.

On Friday, Wike claimed  he met an empty treasury upon assumption of office on May 29.

On Monday, Wike accused Amaechi of squandering up to N800m on Indian consultants to run the Nne Kurubo Model School at Ebubu-Eleme.

Meanwhile, the All Progressive Party  (APC) which Amaechi is a member claims Wike is probing the former governor so he could be tarnished in President Muhammudu Buhari’s eyes hence hindering his chances of being named a minister.
