As stipulated by law, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Clerk of the National Assembly, through a letter of proclamation to convene the new and first session of the 8th National Assembly.
The Clerk, Salihu Maikasuwa, got the letter yesterday, 3rd of June and preparations are already in top gear for the ceremony to take place on Tuesday, 9th of June, 2015, Western Post reports.

The president who returned from his trip to Chad and Niger yesterday, has reportedly supported the move by some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the senate presidency to the North-East region.
Tensions are however growing within the party as supporters of one of the contenders, Senator Bukola Saraki, have openly dismissed the criteria set by the party. The criteria automatically disqualified Saraki as he is from the North-Central region.
Just yesterday, the party postponed its meeting which was meant to announce its adopted candidate for the position of Senate President.

Meanwhile, some members of the party have advised the APC to allow the most popular aspirant to emerge through a due process that would be free, fair, credible and generally acceptable to all the senators
