Man has invented so many things using science and technology. All these inventions have made the way we live our daily life easier. Despite the fact that man can even fly higher in the sky than the eagle and far beyond to the space; he can swim to the deepest parts of the oceans as well as run faster with his automobiles than the cheetah, what is still elusive to man is living with love and peace with his fellow man.

The search for tranquility by man is at the tips of his fingers if he is ready to obey his creator. People should know that what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The meaning of this is that when people truly love themselves, it will be easier to share the love with others. As nobody would want to burn his own fingers in fire, it would be wrong to burn the fingers of others in fire. As a result of not doing any wrongful thing to others, everyone will be good for it.

During Ramadan, people fasting wear a brand new character. Their behaviour becomes almost angel-like. They do not act foolishly and impudently. They do not engage in chaos, quarrels or fights. They avoid anybody that abuses them by saying they are fasting. How excellent is all these characters which summarises the love and peace Ramadan typifies. People fasting do not utter foul languages, but share the joy in their heart by mending the broken fences with anyone they had issues with prior to Ramadan.

It is instructive for Muslims to know that Allah is compassionate and loves compassion. He wants it to be spread among men so that they will live with peace of mind. There is a mutual relationship between love and peace. No one can live in peace with his fellow man without expressing love towards him. This is what Ramadan brings.

Additionally, by demonstrating that Ramadan is a month of love, we should genuinely see the other person as ourselves. This means the lessons of the month is sincerely being learnt. If a person that says he loves his neighbour for Allah’s sake and later turns his back to harm his neighbour, it means he is being hypocritical. A person that loves his neighbour overlooks his shortcomings and corrects him where he goes wrong. Ramadan was decreed on Muslims so that they could have a feeling of the presence of Allah at all times. A feeling of the presence of Allah breeds love and peace.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon his soul) said in one of the 40 Hadiths of An-nawawi that “No one of you would believe until the person wants for his brother (that is neighbour, fellow human being) what he wants for himself.” this means that people who want peace of mind for themselves should in turn want the same for others. As this is exactly what Ramadan brings and teaches humanity.

By showing that we whole-heatedly obey Allah and his laws, the search for what is missing in terms of love and peace among men would be at a minimal level or even could be a thing of the past. Let’s love one another so that the society would be peaceful for all and sundry to live in.
