Election Tribunal Dismisses PDP’s Petition
The petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate, Gen. Bello Sarkin-Yaki, in Kebbi state, challenging the election of Governor Atiku Bagudu has been thrown out by the governorship election petition tribunal.
Bagudu of the APC was returned elected as governor of the state by INEC at the April 2015 general election.
Delivering the verdict, chairman of the tribunal, Justice Kazeem Alogba said the petitioner failed to adhere to the process of filing a petition, News Agency of Nigeria reports.
He averred that the petitioner abandoned the petition by filing for a free hearing notice behind time.

Also reacting to the verdict, Mr Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), applauded the judgment describing it as a victory for democracy.
In a related development, a PDP candidate for Kogi west senatorial district, Senator Adeyemi Smart’s petition against Senator Dino Malaye of the APC at an Abuja court of appeal had gotten the nod of the court.
The new petition, followed the quashing of an earlier one by Smart at Kogi state election petition tribunal, which was dismissed on July 10, on the grounds that it was incompetent.
